At the northern end of The Spit, just behind the seaway wall, is the most popular place to be. It's locally called "Dog Beach".
One of the very few places where dogs can be "off leash" to play and interact with each other. The lack of restrictions seems to engender a feeling of cooperation and tolerance and a spirit of fun. Even the people are well behaved. Of course there is also the fabulous surf beach for both body surfing and boardriders.

This is "Molly" a Labradoodle.
She was a friendly dog, which seemed to enjoy greeting everyone who came along. I loved the way she seem to flop casually from side to side, as she ran. Clearly she was having a good time.

I don't know the name of this compulsive Staffie', but "Banjo" seems to suit. He wasn't the least interested in me, or anything else, except his master who had been well trained to throw a ball. The ball seems to have been much loved too.

This pair, a male and a female seemed to be flirting with each other, and followed each other around the beach. They didn't seem to be going anywhere in particular.
