There was a little boy duck
and his rubbery bill was blue
he had a pretty sweetheart
she dearly loved him too
Together heading north
they flew away from home
to find his secret pond
there, never more to roam
The home he chose was lovely
she liked it from the air
on splashing down together
they made a loving pair
Patrolling their new pond
no blue-bills to be found
this did make him happy
to start a nesting mound
Bending reeds and rushes
and sewing in some leaves
their nest appeared so soon
he'd attended all her needs
His head it was a bobbing
the courting dance begun
with tail erect and fanned
her attention he had won
The incubation started
a task they both did share
he didn't mind at all
and thought it only fair
Six fluffy chicks did hatch
and around the pond parade
they all lined up together
and he quacked his serenade
by alan fear

Blue-billed ducks are normally found in the southern states of Australia.
Two years ago, a male Blue-bill appeared on this Gold Coast pond, he was alone. Amongst the Gold Coast birding fraternity, he caused some excitement, being such a rare sight here.
This year he is back, to the same pond, and with a mate. Birders have been calling in to see them and maybe get a photograph. They are seclusive, so it's not easy, but is very rewarding when one succeeds.

Yes! when I took this shot it was the reflections and colour combinations that I loved the most. Thank you :)
