A male Wanderer Butterfly (Danaus plexippus) photographed in the Coombabah Lakelands Reserve. In other
parts of the world commonly known as the Monarch Butterfly. Originating in North America, they have spread
to many countries right around the world. They grow to a wingspan of about 100mm or 4", and the males
have a "sex spot" on each of the hind wings, and the black wing veins are narrower than those of the female.

Wanderer Butterfly

I am a happy wanderer
just floating on the air
I settle for a moment
then flying without care

I am a happy wanderer
wings both black and gold
it is a natural warning
I'm poisonous, so I'm told

I am a happy wanderer
on milkweeds I do lay
when they hatch all banded
my larvae they do stay

I am a happy wanderer
all the world I roam
and now I'm in Australia
I make this place my home
